Dyson DC15 “The Ball” All Floors, Bagless Upright

Postby Rick on Sat May 17, 2008 9:10 pm

The Ball is a large rubber, rotating cover which surrounds the motor. This ball is the sole steering mechanism. You simply angle the vacuum handle to turn the vacuum cleaner in one direction or another. The more you angle the unit the wider it turns. This eliminates the need to lift the head every time you want to turn the vacuum in a new direction. The ball also makes it much easier to get into tight places.

This model makes it easy to go from carpets to bare floors or delicate rugs. Just flip a switch and the brush turns off.
Don’t like the hight cost of replacing filters? The Dyson DC15 uses a lifetime, washable HEPA filtration system. The filtration system is approved for allergy sufferers by the British Allergy Foundation.

We’re all familiar with the routine of picking up the larger pieces of paper, rubber bands, and pennies before we vacuum. Dyson has reduced this step by creating an extra wide suction channel that pick up debris other brands spit out or leave behind.

There’s no longer a need to remove the attachment hose, plug it into the vacuum cleaner then slide on one of the attachments every time you need the vacuum hose. With the Dyson DC15, you simply slide the handle out, attach a brush or other attachment and your ready to go.

This vacuum cleaner uses a direct drive system to operate the brush bar. This eliminates the need to replace belts. The Clear Bin eliminates the need to buy and handle replacement vacuum bags which saves you money, keeps your hands clean, and allows you to see just how much debris is being removed from your carpet.

The Dyson DC15 “Animal” comparison.
There’s not much difference between The Ball All Floors and The Animal except that The Animal is blue and comes with some of Dyson’s unique attachments which provide additional cleaning features for pet owners. These attachments include the mini turbine, the carpet cleaning kit, and the low reach floor tool. Of course there is a difference in price. These additions bring the price of the Animal up to $599.99.

What the owners are saying (reviews).
Most new owners are amazed by the suction power of this vacuum cleaner. A lot of owners have tested this by vacuuming first with their old vacuum then going over the same carpet with their new Dyson. The DC15 never fails to pick up significantly more debris. This is very important when is comes to keeping rugs and carpets clean.

More Pros:
  • Very fast and easy assembly.
  • Quite operation.
  • Easy to use attachment hose automatically stops brushes. All the suction is diverted to the hose unlike most other brands.
  • Extra long power cord.
  • The Ball makes turning tight corners easy.
  • New five year warranty.

Cons:
The turning method (The Ball) takes a little getting used to, but most owners are pleased once they get used to it.
A little on the heavy side at 20+ pounds. However, this gives it the feel of a quality machine and, some believe, helps with suction. My opinion is this doesn’t have much to do with it.

At $499.00 the DC15 is a little pricey. Do you get what you pay for with this vacuum cleaner? I’d say yes.

I sold my ball dyson to my brother. After years with a Vorwerk, I decided to try the dyson. Big mistake. It's power hungry and only has average suck compared to the vorwerk, and man.. ..its noisy!! My son's asthma returned, which means that the cyclone is NOT as good as a waxed vacuum bag for removing very small dust particules. Nice design, but there are more effective machines about, the miele and the vorwerk are just two.

Sorry to here about your bad experience. People either love these vacuums, or they hate them. But, I can tell you that a much larger percentage is on the love side. The way I see it, Dyson gives you the quality and power of the models that cost over a thousand dollars for half the price.

Why would you sell it to your brother if it\'s that bad? Why would he buy it?
